NO cooling issues prior to draining the coolant for the repair. Getting the air out is a bitch! Park on a steep incline nose up, idle until well after thermostat opens, top off with coolant, repeat! GuruV4ZZX answered 3 years ago. Had the same problem with air after changing the thermostat. After 30 min of idling with heater on, bubbles still coming up. Drove it for a bit and will pop the cap check the fluid level, let it idle for awhile and see if we are still getting bubbles.

Not over heating so far. Sxr answered 3 years ago. Chargermango answered 3 years ago. My durango overheated at miles. It turned out to be the water pump..

Asked the wife to make sure the dealer had done a proper bleed procedure.. I bled system properly and now miles later it runs like a champ.

Time now to give the dealer a call and give them a piece of my mind. GuruCCN61 answered 2 years ago. GuruHBGX7 answered 2 years ago. My dodge durango 5. Any suggestions. GuruF4WHS answered about a year ago.

If I have put a new radiator in and thermostat and water pump? Why is the hose getting hot running to my thermostat and making it overheat? GotLucky answered about a year ago. If present, open the port, fill the radiator until coolant comes out of the port, close the port, and continue filling the radiator. Keep adding coolant as it heats up and the thermostat opens. It's also good practice to raise rpm and have the heat on. This opens the hot water valve if equipped and allows coolant to circulate through the heater core.

Getting hot air from the ducts confirms the flow of coolant from the engine and through the HVAC system. Thermostats can be tricky.

Carefully feel the radiator and upper and lower hoses as the engine warms up. When the thermostat opens, allowing coolant flow, the radiator and both hoses will become hot. You can also visibly see the flow by looking into the filler neck where the cap came off. If there's no flow after a long period of run time, remove the thermostat and visually inspect it. It should be fully closed when cold, and you should be able to manually open it against spring tension with your fingers.

Never do this when the engine is warm. Filling it back up is not the fix. The coolant had to leak from somewhere. Look under the vehicle when it is parked and see if you can see puddles of coolant.

If there are, start directly above those puddles in your search. If the coolant level appears to be fine, then the next easiest thing to look at is the fan. Most vehicles use electric fans to cool the radiator when it gets warm enough. These fans are most important when the vehicle is idling.

These fans can and do fail. Solution : With the engine hot and idling but not yet overheating pop the hood open and see if the fan is turning. If it is not turning at all you know you have a bad fan.

Check the fuse and fan relay to see if they are getting power. Next on the list is the thermostat. Solution : It can be tough to tell if a thermostat is bad without just replacing it. Does the vehicle get hot within a few minutes of driving and the coolant is full?
