Who is yazeed bin muawiya

At the end of the year, Hussein bin Ali decided to travel to Al Kufa, after receiving dozens of pledges from his supporters the Shiites promising him victory and support and to revolt against Yazid. Events escalated and reached a climax on the tenth of Muharram in 61 AH, in the region of Karbala in Iraq, when the Umayyad army intercepted the path of Hussein and his family and friends, a battle broke out between the two parties, in which the grandson of the Prophet drowned in his blood after the Kufis failed him.

Abu Hamed al-Ghazali d. Perhaps he took this position, driven by his pro-ruling regime tendencies as al-Ghazali was closely affiliated with the Seljuk sultans and Abbasid caliphs. The ruler must do what is necessary to defend his rule, in order to prevent the sedition and chaos that will occur in the country if there is disagreement about who is to be the ruler.

In his book "Revival of the Science of Religion", Ghazali denies the possibility that Yazid should be held accountable for the death of Al Hussein. Ghazali questioned the historical accounts that linked Yazid to the tragedy of Karbala. He said: "Whoever claims that Yazid ordered the killing of Hussein or was pleased with it, he should know that it is very foolish, If the elders, ministers, and sultans had wanted to know the truth of who ordered his killing, who was pleased with it and who hated him, they could not do so.

He met and lived amongst the Sahaba and narrated Prophetic traditions too. He is described as handsome, long-haired and tall. He had fifteen sons and five daughters from different wives. Paraphrase: The entire collection of reports condemning Yazid bin Muawiyah Radhi Allahu an Muawiyah are weak or fabricated [4]. Some narrations describe him as being addicted to dancing, wine and music. Some regard him responsible for the martyrdom of Husayn Allah be pleased with him.

There are however, other narrations that describe him as a pious and learned leader. He is also praised for his night prayers. He was very disheartened at the martyrdom of Husayn Allah be pleased with him and he also cursed the killer. One group loves him and accepts him as a leader. Another group criticises and curses him. The third group is moderate towards him.

They do not accept him as a leader, nor do they curse him. His appointment was against the peace treaty between Imam al-Hasan a and Mu'awiya. Some hadiths explicitly cursed Yazid and the murderers of Imam al-Husayn a. All Shi'a and a group of Sunnis refer to what Yazid did during his caliphate and consider him deserved to be cursed. Historians have recorded Yazid's genealogy, who is from the Banu Umayya clan of the tribe of Quraysh , as follows: "Yazid b.

Mu'awiya b. Sakhr b. Harb b. Umayya b. Abd Shams b. Abd Manaf. There is not much information about Yazid's mother, except that her name was Maysun bt. Bahdal and belonged to the clan of Banu Haritha b. Janab al-Kalbi. Yazid's grandfather, Abu Sufyan , and his grandmother, Hind bt. In the Battle of Uhud , when Hamza b.

This epithet was later applied to them disparagingly. In some hadiths, Imam 'Ali a states that Mu'awiya and his father never believed in Islam but only accepted it out of fear, and therefore do not deserve to be successor of the Prophet s.

In Ziyarat 'Ashura , he is referred to as "the son of the liver-eater woman". Abu Sufyan and his mother was Maysun bt. But soon couldn't live in Damascus, and so Mu'awiya divorced her and returned to the desert. At this time, Yazid was either an infant or not yet born. They also had literary and poetic inclinations. It is reported that when Abbasids took Damascus, disinterred him. In many sources, Yazid has been introduced as an immoral and corrupt person.

Some believe that the beliefs of Maysun's tribe who converted to Islam from Christianity influenced the formation of his personality during his growth. Most historical sources have mentioned that he was a poet and also was profligate and drunkard. Yazid was a speaker and a poet. His book of poems is published and also translated to Persian as well. One of his poems which is narrated after the Event of Ashura reads:.

Then, return and give Ibn Ziyad such a cup, who is my confidant and trustee; and my caliphate was established by him. Historians have reported that when Mu'awiya sent Yazid with the army of Islam toward Rome, the army went forth and was afflicted with pox and fever. Still, Yazid stayed back with his wife on the way and made himself busy with drinking and composed a poem, "fever and pox the army received and I have no worries when in the abbey of Maran I lean on the couch beside Umm Kulthum.

According to historical reports, when Mu'wiya decided to appoint Yazid as the crown prince, Ziyad b. Abih told him, "Yazid is a weak person who loves hunting more than being a caliph and he is not suitable for it. In the peace treaty of Imam al-Hasan a , it was mentioned that Mu'awiya should not appoint a successor for himself and must leave choosing of the caliph to the Muslim community.

After the martyrdom of Imam al-Hasan a , Mu'awiya did not respect the peace treaty and ordered his governors and agents to praise Yazid and send groups from big cities to give allegiance to him. Zubayr and Abd Allah b. Umar and Abd al-Rahman to give allegiance to Yazid. After the death of Mu'awiya, Yazid became the ruler. Ali a , Abd Allah b. Umar, Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Bakr and Abd Allah b. Zubayr to give allegiance and to behead anyone who refused.

The short reign of Yazid was a period of great unrest, in which he tried to extinguish any disagreeing current mercilessly.

Social and political freedom at his time was so limited. The oppression and crimes that Yazid committed during his short reign marked the beginning of a series of uprisings and revolts against the Umayyad dynasty and finally overthrew it. According to sources, when Yazid reached power, he ordered the governor of Medina, "force al-Husayn a to give allegiance and if he a refuses, send me his head.

As it has been mentioned before that Yazid made UbaydUllah Ibn Ziyad kill the grandson of Rasulullah saw Husayn and his companions, and in those three days huge heinous crimes happened in Madina about which nobody knows except Allah. Yazeed wanted to secure his governance by sending Muslim bin Uqbah but Allah did against his wishes and punished him.

Verily Allah killed him likewise Allah made grip over the oppressing towns, no doubt His grip is painful and strict". Yazid was informed that Abdullah Ibn Zubayr RA used to say in his speeches that Yazid was a fraud, drunkard, one who abandons Salaat and one who stays with singing women. May Allah also not grant Jaza and khayr to him i. Yazid , he got many righteous killed and also looted the amwaal in Madina in great numbers, this has been multiply narrated that he created a lot of Shar and Fasad.

It is mentioned that Hadrat Muafl bin Sanan RA was tied infront of Ibn Uqba and then martyred, you were his friend before but later you used strong words against Yazid due to which he became angry at you.

Muslim ordered to get him killed but a man said This person i. Shaykh ul Islam Ibn Hajr al-Asqalani rah. Imam Ahmed rah mentioned these verses: Would ye then, if ye were given the command, work corruption in the land and sever your ties of kinship? Such are the men whom Allah has cursed… Hence what could be a bigger Strife than what Yazid did? According to me it is correct to curse a person like Yazid, although one cannot imagine a Fasiq like him and apparently he never repented, the possibility of his repentance is weaker than the possibility of his faith Iman.

Verily, may Allah's curse be upon all of them, their friends, their supporters, their group and upon everyone who inclines towards them until Qayamah and until an eye sheds a tear for Abu Abdullah Hussain ra. Click here for Scanned Page He drank and did evil. He started his kingdom with the killing of the Shahid al-Hussain RA and ended it with the incident of al-Harra i.
